In this tutorial, we will cover how you can request items from the Snell Library Remote Annex. This tutorial will also explain what the Annex is, how fast you can get items, and other pertinent information you might need to request an item. Let's get started.

How to request materials from the Snell Library remote annex title slide.

The Snell Library Remote Annex is an offsite storage facility for library books and other materials. It is not open to the public, but still houses most of the library's physical collections, such as books, journals, and media. It is available for checkout, though since it's an offsite facility, it will take time to ship items.

If you've heard of or use the library's interlibrary loan service, you might be wondering how ILL and the Annex are different. In looking at this comparison chart from left to right: The Annex houses most of the physical material the library has and is a part of the library, while interlibrary loan is a service that provides access to items that are not in our library's collections, essentially borrowing those items from other libraries.

The Annex is a part of the library collection, so its physical items can be renewed when checked out. With ILL, you have access to physical and digital material and depending on your loan, might not be renewable.

And finally, the items in the Annex must be picked up in person at the Snell Library in Boston, Massachusetts. Interlibrary loan delivery is available to the whole global network, but the formats available depend on where you are. Physical items might not be available at your campus.

You will receive an email when your materials are available for pickup at Snell Library Help and Information Desk. The library usually receives deliveries from the Annex on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for next day service. Request your materials from the library remote annex by a.m. Eastern Standard Time Monday through Thursday.

To place a request for an item, first search for the items you would like to request using Scholar One Search on the library website.
