Desk Map

This is a rough overview of the Access Point desk, entrance turnstiles, and exit gates. Please remember that you are sharing this workspace with other student workers, IDEAS staff, and Northeast Security officers. Keep things neat and organized!

  • There is a list of phone numbers at the desk if you need to contact staff or other departments.
  • There is the emergency button underneath the desk. If this button is pressed, NUPD will be alerted immediately. You can also phone NUPD emergency line at 617-373-3333. If possible, let the supervisor know you have contacted NUPD, but do not wait if you are in any danger. If it is unsafe at the AP: leave and go to the work room behind the Help & Information Desk.
  • The turnstiles (also called gates or lanes) require a Husky Card to open. There are 5 gates and only the first one (closest to the AP) works with mobile IDs.
  • This is the BoonTouch tablet. It controls the 5 turnstile gates.
  • We hold lost Husky IDs in a box until NUPD collects them. Write the names on the lost & found list when you get a lost card. Cross the name off when the owner comes to collect the ID. If NUPD takes the card, cross the name off and write NUPD next to the name.
  • Computers 1 and 2 are the Access Monitor desktops. They have all the sites that you need saved. Do not download, save, or install anything on these computers.
  • Computer 3 is meant for Northeast Security to use in the overnight period. It displays security camera feed which is strictly for NE Security, NUPD, or authorized full-time staff to use. Please leave it alone!
  • RFID exit gates may flash red and make noise. If this happens, please direct the patron to the H&I desk.

Boon Touch

Use the tablet to open a gate for a guest listed on the Access Exceptions list. You can open gates by pressing the green arrow button.A copy of this info is on the desk. If you notice something wrong with the tablet or the gates, please alert the Supervisor on Duty!

A. Preset: Tap F1 and then Standard and wait for system to set the gates to their normal position.

B. Turnstiles are labeled with 1 being the closest to the AP desk. Tap the green arrow directly to open a gate. Error icons will appear in the middle of the gate.

C. Operations mode button changes how the individual gates work. Tapping the button a second time will remove the menu. Use operations menu to reset a gate if it is malfunctioning.

D. The toolbar can be ignored. If you click anything accidentally, the toolbar will show home button to return you to the main screen.

Teams

Access important files on our Microsoft Teams channel. Login information and the Access Exceptions list are both under the Files tab. The steps to reach files are illustrated above.

1. On the left sidebar select "Teams"    2. Select "IDEAS Student Employees"   3. Select "Access Point"   4. From the top tabs select "Files"

If you are prompted to change the login information for any of the shared websites/documents, please alert staff so we can ensure that the login info is saved. If you do not do this, we will be locked out of these sites.

For opening shifts, turn on the AP computers and log in using the info on Teams. Closing shifts need to log out and shut down.

CS Gold

Every shift, proctors must have the Access Monitor open. It is from CS Gold, which is controlled by the Husky Card Office. You will see confidential information related to patrons. No information is to be shared with anyone. If someone asks about entries or to see their own information, please alert the Supervisor on Duty.

The Access Monitor provides a small snapshot of each patron’s account as they enter Snell. Proctors should be looking to see if

  1. Patrons are using their own Husky Cards or mobile ID to enter
  2. If a patron's account has been denied entry via the Access Monitor

If a patron is using someone else's ID or trying to enter without any ID, proctors should stop them and ask them to use their own ID. People who don't use their own ID or try to sneak others in should be reported via the AP Violations form.

If a patron is denied, refer them to the Husky Card Office to remedy this situation. They may be denied for a variety of reasons, but we cannot grant access to those with the “deny” message. Denied patrons may have different color boxes. Proctors should only worry about the text at the bottom which will say 'deny' or 'patron hold flag set' if they are not allowed inside Snell.

If you ever have question or a patron is giving you a hard time, call over the Supervisor on Duty!

Apps

Patrons can use the CBORD or GET Mobile apps to enter Snell through gate 1. We have instructions on the desk as well as some helpful tips if there are issues installing it. Once the patron downloads it, they have it forever and can use it again if they forget their ID. Patrons will have to select "#316019901 SL-Lane-1-RDR Turnstile" on the app to open gate 1

They must still be using their own phone/ID to enter. If you notice the Access Monitor showed someone entered as someone else, stop them and ask for their own ID.

Remember! While you may be able to view some details about account holds or patron status, that information is restricted and not meant to be shared - the Husky Card Office will communicate with the patron about it if they need to. The Husky Card Office is in charge of creating Husky IDs, managing accounts and mobile IDs, and determining building access across campus. If anyone has a hold on their account or otherwise can't enter the library, they should go to the Husky Card Office in Speare Hall. If we're unable to help troubleshoot mobile app issues, patrons should be sent to the Husky Card Office.
