EndNote Tips

EndNote is the citation management tool recommended by faculty teaching HINF. You may hear about others such as Zotero or Mendeley. They all offer similar functionality but EndNote offers more. It is also more expensive. Zotero is free. Others, including EndNote will offer free versions, much like other free software programs there will be limits.

Download the paid version of EndNote from your NU hub under Software Downloads found in your NU hub.

What is EndNote?

EndNote is the citation management tool recommended to you for health informatics students.

It is one of several software programs that helps you manage your research and format your citations. EndNote is licensed for use by current Northeastern faculty, staff, and students, which means it's freely available to you as a Northeastern Student. Instructions for getting it are in the box below.

Why use EndNote?

It will save you a massive amount of time when conducting literature reviews and research for your papers.

EndNote will help you:

  • organize your references in groups, making them easy to find and use
  • Assist in citing in papers (in text citing)
  • help create bibliographies
  • EndNote can cite in a variety of different citation styles where NoodleTools or EasyBib cannot.
  • It comes with added features that help with in text citing (plug-in for Word, called Cite While You Write).

In addition to support from ITS and the library, EndNote Support is also available to you in their help section.
