As you search for information, save your sources, particularly datasets and government publications. Note the date you were last able to access a source in case it isn’t available later. Citation managers can help you manage the information you save about your sources. You can reference and cite information that is no longer available where you found it. For these citations, include a last accessed date.

- Area Health Resource Files (DataLUMOS)Database containing more than 6,000 variables for each of the nation's counties. Contains information on health facilities, health professions, measures of resource scarcity, health status, economic activity, health training programs, and socioeconomic and environmental characteristics. Also know as Bureau of Health Professions Area Resource File.
- CMS Medicare Appeals Level 2 (The Data Liberation Project)Spreadsheets of all Medicare Part C and Part D Type 2 appeal outcomes from January 2015 through December 2019
- Federal Inmate Deaths (The Data Liberation Project)A spreadsheet of each federal inmate death 2005-2024, including demographic and cause-of-death information.
- NIH Grant Terminations in 2025 (Airtable)Information on terminated grants, based on both that published by HHS and self-reported terminations from scientists. Every effort is made to ensure accuracy, but there is uncertainty in data shared or published.
- United States Department of Health and Human Services Opioid Dispensing Rate Maps (2006-2023) (DataLUMOS)While not a primary driver of drug overdose in the United States currently, prescription opioids do contribute to opioid-related deaths. The data in the maps show the geographic distribution in the United States, at both the state and county level, of retail pharmacy-dispensed opioid prescriptions per 100 persons per year from 2019–2022.

Centers for Disease Control
The Centers for Disease Control is the United States' leading science-based, data-driven, service organization devoted to protecting the public's health. A variety of efforts have been made to store and archive various data.

- CDC Social Vulnerability Index (GitHub)Uses 16 U.S. Census variables from the 5-year American Community Survey (ACS) to identify communities that may need support before, during, or after disasters.
