Northeastern University supports open access to information.

The Faculty Senate has twice passed resolutions in favor of providing open access to the scholarly output of the university, in 2006 and 2008. In 2013, the Faculty Senate's Library Policy and Operations Committee delivered a report to the Senate encouraging increased support for Open Access on campus. And in 2016, the staff of Snell Library adopted an Open Access policy for our own research publications and presentation materials.

The Northeastern University Library supports open access to information:

• Through memberships and contributions to scholarly publishers' open journal content: See the Open Access Journals and Books page, and the Open Access Publishing support page which includes a searchable database of open access journal agreements and author processing discounts.
• Through support for data management planning and help meeting sharing requirements. For more, see Research Data Services.
• Through a secure Digital Repository: if you have authored open educational resources (OERs) that you would like to publish or distribute widely, the Digital Repository Service (DRS) is designed to store and share the scholarly work produced by the university community, including the file formats typically used for OER (documents, images, and streaming media). When you upload your OER to the DRS, it will be made available to the public (if desired - you can also chose to restrict to the university community), a permanent URL will be created for easy sharing, and the public file will be indexed by search engines, like Google, Yahoo, and Bing, to help increase the reach and impact of your OER.
