This page is dedicated to providing some additional database recommendations. Given the interdisciplinary work of any health profession, the databases are grouped below based on the main subject area of coverage.
Database for Health Sciences/Physical Therapy Research
Northeastern Library subscribes to many databases. This box includes core databases covering physical/rehabilitation journals and other publications.
- PubMed (NU customized) This link opens in a new windowA comprehensive source of journal literature in the life sciences and biomedicine from the National Library of Medicine. Includes selected full text from PubMed Central, and NCBI Bookshelf. PubMed is a free web resource, however this version contains links to Northeastern-subscribed journals that require a login.
- CINAHL Ultimate (EBSCOhost) This link opens in a new windowCitations and abstracts of scholarly, peer-reviewed articles and professional association news and information for thousands of publications. Covers nursing and 17 allied health disciplines, going as far back as 1937. Links to PDFs or full text for Northeastern-subscribed journals.
- SPORTDiscus with Full Text (EBSCOhost) This link opens in a new windowFull text journal articles in sports & sports medicine, with full-text coverage dating back to 1985.
- Embase (Elsevier) This link opens in a new windowAn up-to-date biomedical research database covering the most important international biomedical literature from 1947 to the present day. Structured and natural language searching.
Open Access or web based resources
- medrxiv -preprint for Health SciencesmedRxiv (pronounced "med-archive") is a free online archive and distribution server for complete but unpublished manuscripts (preprints) in the medical, clinical, and related health sciences
Interdisciplinary, Multidisciplinary
I have highlighted databases that have a specific focus, but there are several that include multiple disciplines and subjects. Depending on the topic and the type of publications you are interested in, these could be very useful too.

- Social Sciences Premium Collection (Proquest) This link opens in a new windowSocial science includes many areas. This database covers politics and public policy, sociology, social services, anthropology, criminology, linguistics, information sciences and education. Professional society databases included.
Grey Literature: Government Sources
Grey literature simply defined is items like government reports, white papers, documents and reports from organizations. Essentially, they are not in a formal structured publication like a journal.

Engineering, technology
- Engineering Village This link opens in a new windowcovers a wide range of publications on computer science and engineering topics. Engineering Village includes INSPEC and COMPENDEX. Each can be searched separately by unchecking the box in the databases section.
- IEEEXplore (IEEE/IET Electronic Library) This link opens in a new windowAccess to citations and full text from IEEE journals, conference proceedings, and standards. Includes IEEE Spectrum Magazine, the Now Publishers Foundations and Trends Technology eBooks Engineering and Energy Library.
