The Access Point

Welcome to the Access Point!

The Access Point (or 'AP') serves as first point-of-contact for patrons entering the library. AP proctors are critical to keeping Snell Library open and operational. You'll receive a wide variety of questions and ensure patrons adhere to library rules in a very fast-paced environment. The job of AP proctors can be broken down into 2 basic categories:

Security

  1. Make sure patrons are using their own IDs
  2. Inform patrons of the library rules
  3. Record information on patrons not following rules
  4. Verify guests of the library using the approval list
  5. Notify the supervisor of any concerns, technical difficulties, guest arrivals, etc.

Customer Service

  1. Answer basic questions about directions, library access, rules, etc.
  2. Help anyone struggling to use their Husky ID or mobile ID apps at the turnstiles
  3. Offer solutions and alternatives to both patrons and people who don't have library access
  4. Ensure guests receive information relevant to their visit

*These lists aren't everything proctors need to do, but are the basics.

Emergency Response

In the event of an emergency:

We always aim to keep you safe and hope that nothing bad happens. Part of keeping safe is knowing how to respond in an emergency. In any type of emergency situation you should always:

  1. Remain as calm as you can
  2. Breathe
  3. Signal the supervisor and make sure they are aware

Depending on the situation you may need to:

  • Press the panic button underneath the desk to alert NUPD
  • Call NUPD
  • Leave the Access Point if you no longer feel safe
