Overview of research support
The library has many options for research support.
Below are some links that will lead you to more information about each of the services and/or resources.

Digital Repository Service
The Digital Repository Service (DRS) was developed by Northeastern University Library as a tool for University faculty and staff to protect the valuable information and data that has been created as part of the University’s research and instructional mission.
Anyone is welcome to use the DRS to discover publicly available content, like theses and dissertations or the University Archives and Special Collections Digital Collections. Members of the Northeastern community are encouraged to sign in to access additional content that is not available to the general public, like photographs from the Office of Marketing and Communications or certain research materials.
- DRS User GuideThe DRS User Guide contains helpful information about various DRS functions, like downloading and uploading files, as well as information about how the DRS operates, like how communities and collections are structured.
- DRS FAQFrequently asked questions about the DRS
Data Services
It would be impossible to cover all sources available for finding data. You will likely have reviewed tutorials on finding data and may already have some you have found. The library does have some databases for finding some collections, there are some open data sources but other specific data might have more restrictions to access.
We have a dedicated Research Data Services Team that can help with data management plans, data visualization, data analysis and GIS options.
- NU Library Research Data ServicesData Management, data visualization, GIS & Geospatial Analysis, data analysis and text mining support
Our institutional repository also accepts data. Learn more about how to do this.

NIH Public Access Policy
"To advance science and improve human health, NIH makes the peer-reviewed articles it funds publicly available on PubMed Central. The NIH public access policy requires scientists to submit final peer-reviewed journal manuscripts that arise from NIH funds to PubMed Central immediately upon acceptance for publication."
- NIH Public Access PolicyOn December 17, 2024, NIH issued its updated Public Access Policy. The 2024 Public Access Policy is effective for manuscripts accepted for publication on or after December 31, 2025. Until then, NIH's current (2008) Public Access Policy remains in effect. NIH Grant Proposal Policy Change
What? All NIH grant applications will be required to submit a 1-2 page data management and sharing plan (DMSP).
See the full information:
When? Begins January 25, 2023
Why? "NIH has a longstanding commitment to making the results of NIH-funded funded research available. Responsible data management and sharing has many benefits, including accelerating the pace of biomedical research, enabling validation of research results, and providing accessibility to high-value datasets."
What must I do? As of January 25, 2023, include a 1-2 page DMSP for all NIH grant proposals.
The DMSP must include 6 elements explained in detail:
