Welcome to the backup supervisor team! As a backup supervisor, you play a pivotal role in the operation of Snell Library’s access services department. Backup supervisors are the primary supervisor of both service points when on duty. Backups make it possible to keep service points open 90 hours a week by supervising the desks when staff are unavailable. As a backup supervisor, you are responsible for supervising student employees, resolving conflicts, and handling more advanced patron questions and concerns. Backups should have a comprehensive knowledge of both service points and understand the role of the library in the wider campus community.
This training will cover the following topics:
In addition, you should have already completed the trainings for all student workers, H&I desk assistants/leads, and access proctors. If you have not completed these trainings, please do so as soon as possible. The backup supervisor training should be completed before your first shift. You can work on training during scheduled shifts or speak with Katie if you need additional time scheduled to complete them. (You are not expected to complete training on your own time outside of work hours!)
Backups have a variety of responsibilities. Tasks may vary on a day to day basis, but you should generally keep these things in mind.
