Daily: Returns

Using Alma, check in items from the bin.

  • Pay special attention to notes that pop up from Alma when you scan the barcodes! There might be other patrons waiting for the items that re returned or fines that will need to be waived.
  • Bring an empty bin out to the area where the Library Returns bin is and place it with the Library Returns label facing toward the patrons entering the library.

Tuesdays & Thursdays: Requested Items Pick-up Reconciling

Using the spreadsheet, check that the names on the list are still on the shelves.

Make note of any packages on the shelf that are not on the list so we can add them.

 Remove items that are highlighted on the spreadsheet from the shelves and check them in.

Meeting WebChat Coverage:

Note: All IDEAS library staff might also be unavailable during this period as we're in meetings or not working.

Serve as back-up staff coverage for on-site and remote H&I assistants while IDEAS staff are in a meeting

General tasks:

Sitting at the H&I desk, cover webchat and the central departmental phone (617-373-8778)

Shelve any items that need to be shelved

 Also, be available to assist the security guards with issues:

Examples: Watch the entry doors so that both guards can go throughout the building; keep track of deliveries; contact staff and provide updates about issues

Separate temporary from Permanent Storage:

Prior to Wednesdays, we need to have roughly one full cart of temporary or permanent Annex materials ready for later accessioning of those items. 

1.) Using a repository search in Alma, search the barcode of items on the shelves in the work room. 

2.) View the item record for that barcode.

3.) Under the Notes tab, check if there is an indicator in Internal Note 3 that says CoMo2StacksTemp

4.) If that indicator is not in the record, place the item with Permanent Storage. (Note: Most of the items will be Temporary Storage and have the indicator CoMo2StacksTemp.
