News & Newspapers: News through Social Media

Know your current events! How to access recent issues of various news publications, like the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, and more.

Because News is Unavoidable on Social Media

Social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr play a huge role in spreading and shaping the news. According to The Pew Research Center, 78% of Facebook users encountered news when on the site for reasons other than informing themselves about current events. That same study showed that just 34% of users "like" a journalist or news organization, so most of the news they see has been posted by friends. The best way to get your news is by reading the print or online version of the news source itself, not a post about it from other users. Use the news sources in this guide on the different tabs if you are unsure where to start. "Like" them on Facebook or follow them on Twitter or Tumblr to get their news content in your feed. From there, you can click through to the website of the organization that published it.
