The university and university libraries make these products available at no cost to current NU faculty, staff, and students.

Which citation manager should I use?

It really depends on your project and preferences, but here are a few considerations.

Main strengths:

  • allows for either desktop or web-based use
  • great for heavy users of Web of Science/Web of Knowledge, as it works beautifully with EndNote (same company).
  • now allows reference sharing (through EndNote Online)

  • steeper learning curve than RefWorks

Main strengths:

  • fairly quick to learn
  • web-based software can be used on any computer (with web access)
  • easy to share references with others

  • less customizable/powerful than EndNote
